Environmental Health Services is a professional multidisciplinary team in the Department of Preventive Medicine. We promote environmental health and safety services through education, consultation, monitoring, inspecting and planning in response to present and future needs of Fort Bliss and WBAMC.
- Inspects food service establishments and investigates possible foodborne illness outbreaks.
- Conducts food handlers’ class, food safety education and food manager certification classes.
- Conducts QA/QC monitoring for drinking water, swimming pools, and field water sources.
- Inspects schools, day care centers, gyms, barbershops, detention cells, water buffaloes and field training sites.
- Evaluates pest, rodent and insect complaints.
- Conducts comprehensive West Nile Virus surveillance program.
- Coordinates and instructs 40-hr field sanitation team (FST) training
- Provides oversight to WBAMC hazardous waste and regulated medical waste programs.
- Conducts “by-request” inspection of significant environmental concerns of buildings, barracks and troop housing.
- Ensures hospital wastewater outflow is monitored and conducted IAW federal, state, local laws and regulations.
- Provides recommendations to incidences on-post requiring biohazard clean-up.
Food Handler’s Certification
This class is conducted every first Friday of each month and the first Thursday during Federal Holiday weekends. Classes are first come, first served. There is no fee for the class. Groups of 15 or more can schedule a class by coordinating with the Training NCO 30 days in advance. This class is required to serve food on Fort Bliss.

ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification
This class is conducted once a quarter. The class is a 40 hour class requiring a 5 day schedule. Any personnel currently employed at Fort Bliss, McGregor Range, and White Sands Missile Range who serve in a supervisory or managerial capacity, military and civilian, at a food service area is eligible for this training. The class is free of charge. For class dates, please contact the NCOIC or training NCOIC for class dates.
Field Sanitation Team Certification
FST class is scheduled through ATTRS. Please consult with your Unit Training NCO. This course is a 40 hour class requiring a 5 day schedule. Personnel registered on ATTRS have priority seating. For more information please contact the NCOIC or Training NCOIC.
Additional classes in Preventive Medicine topics can be conducted on a request basis.
All regular classes are conducted in BLDG 21, Slater Road on main post.
Water Trailer Inspection
Water trailers should be sanitized and inspected on a semi-annual basis if in use. If not in regular use, they should be sanitized and inspected prior to use. If no preventive medicine assets are assigned or present at your unit, we will conduct inspections by request. Requests should be placed at least 10 days prior to required date of use. Emergency requests will be considered, but please plan accordingly and make requests in a timely manner. All requests should be forwarded to the Water Lab Manager

If unsanitary conditions are observed at any food facility (improper employee hygiene, uncooked food, etc.), please contact us.
